Pfadfinderei Monolith
Creative Code, 2017
Dominic Kießling from Pfadfinderei created this non-commissioned piece.
The original concept was a piece of software to create non regular grids from existing video. That part of the project was developed in c++ and openCV. After Dominic experimented with the software and created some nice visuals, he envisioned a physical version of the same concept bringing it one step further. He designed the product and I serve as a consultant for the hardware and technical aspects. I designed a modular system based ARM micro controllers that would drive the display and connect to the media server thanks to several USB cables. Arduino was the chosen language mainly because of its huge user base and its easy access. MadMapper act as media server giving the pixels to the piece directly through USB in a sync and tearing-free fashion.
